SPACE AND MATERIALITY 4 – 19/08/2019 – DEEPAK SIR

An activity was given to us in this class, in which we had to think of any two random words and sketch them in under 30 seconds. Later on, we had to pass them to our group members who would do the same and the process would go on until our 4 * 4 grid got filled. This activity helped us enhance our sketching and productive skills. It helped us sketch complicated things in very less time that can eventually help us in future.

This is how it went.

We then revised the things we discussed in the last lecture – Categories and properties of materials, questions to ask in order to know a material completely, etc.
We also learnt the processes of extracting a material. they were as follows:

  • REMOVAL PROCESS :- removes unnecessary things and make an object useful. This involves drilling, milling, etc.
  • SHAPING PROCESS :- brings any object to some shape. This involves 3D printing, ceramics, forging, etc.
  • MOULDING :- glass, clay, metal, rubber are some materials that can be moulded. This involves metal casting.
  • DEPOSITION :- This involves crystallisation, welding, etc.

-> Assignment – create a material sample from the 7 categories of materials (one sample from each category)

With this assignment I explored different materials and was able to categorise few of them into their respective groups.
