Interior Design is basically designing an environment we can interact with. it is not just the in space but also an out space.
In this class we learnt the following aspects of Interior Design through different examples.
- Light
- Shadows
- Materiality
- Solidity
- Water
- Framing
- Tone
- Color
We were shown the projects of : Ando, who mainly worked with the Light in Space, and how he controlled the Natural Light. Peter Zermthor, who worked on Light/Materiality. There is another designer called Carlo Scarpa who focused on Water. By his projects, I learnt how he looks at water as a public space, which was very interesting. Bijoy Jain, who worked on Framing Space (especially open space), always respected privacy and tried to design environment that would not only provide privacy but also where you can have gatherings.
We were also made to go through a few sites of Mumbai – Marine Drive, Railway Stations, Flyover, Carter Road, etc. for us to get a clear idea about what Interior Design is.
My Reflection :- This class made me realise that Interior Design is not only designing an in space, but also includes out space. Also that patterns make a very important role this field.
