Many of us think that Emblem and Icon mean same. But, in reality they have a huge difference. Emblem - stands in place of something Icon - implies something
How icon translates to Indian context
There are many real life examples, that are natural and mean something in Indians’ belief. Following are few of them :-
- Tree – symbol of temptation/life
- Apple – symbol of temptation/newton
- christ symbol – symbol of rebirth (because you always are forgiven)
- Tika – establishes caste/religion/class
- Snake –
- Lucifer
- good luck(shiva)
- fear(Greece)
- evil(Harry Potter – Slytherin)
- Creation –
- Shivaling (womb and phalete)
- Big bang
- Statue of Mother Goddess (Venus)
- Dot
- Star – 1 straight triangle and an upright triangle
Reflection – What I understood from this class is that Icons are symbols that are used commonly or have a same meaning across the globe. Its opposite with the symbols. That’s the main difference.
